The Seven WONDERS of Petrosains

Humans have been creating wonders since the beginning of time. How did the Stonehenge builders lift huge boulders in Bath over 4,000 years ago? The fortification works of the Great Wall in China are still mind boggling. Did the aliens really build the magnificent pyramids in Egypt? While it is mystical as it seems, the science behind them are often explained.  But still those wonders challenge certain logics and the myths continue to linger on. The fact is that those human works of the past mesmerized the world at that time and inspired following generations until today.

Petrosains, the Discovery Centre, has its own ‘seven wonders’ too to inspire people. These ‘seven wonders’ are actually some of the most popular attractions and here they are, according to my selection, in no order of priority:

1. THE DARK RIDE

The kids just love the brief introductory ride at the beginning of the journey and they don't even mind the slightly longer queue during peak periods. Just say ‘cheese’ at the end of the ride!

2. THE HURRICANE SIMULATOR

Not everyone gets the opportunity to experience how it feels to be inside a deadly hurricane. Not everyone wants to. But at Petrosains even the adults are tempted to try this attraction at the Space Gallery, at least once!

3. THE MARS ROVER
Built by 13 year old Camille Beatty and her younger sister, the rovers can be programmed and moved by a remote control to roam over a simulated Martian landscape.

4. THE RAPPING T-REX
The surprisingly friendly predator greets visitors as they embark on a million years of time travel back to the Jurassic era. This is the icon of Petrosains and one of the ‘must take pictures and videos’ during the visit.

5. THE HELICOPTER SIMULATOR
A thrilling simulator ride for smaller kids (and adults too) as they maneuver the treacherous mountains while gunning enemy planes or while riding a break away roller coaster.

6. THE OIL PLATFORM
The closest you can get to experiencing life on an offshore oil platform; especially if you're not an offshore worker! There are also various exhibits and related activities. Another icon of Petrosains for its life size as it's a real (decommissioned) oil platform!

7. THE 3D THEATRE
Fascinating and entertaining 3D movies in our mini theatre as visitors are about to end their exciting science discovery in Petrosains.

Besides these ‘seven wonders’, Petrosains also has loads of other fun, interactive exhibits and games such as the Mind Game, Batak Pro, Speed Skiing, F1 Car Simulators, inspiring activities at SPARKZ, SPEED, and SPACE galleries as well as science shows, workshops and science busking. Now you can visit all these ‘seven wonders’ at one time and in one place – only at Petrosains, the Discovery Centre.
